The Center for Women’s Health and Human Rights has a strong vision of promoting the health and human rights of women and girls everywhere. As a baby institute—founded in 2003—our vision and energy drive our growth.

Teaching

The Center for Women’s Health and Human Rights is beginning to enhance teaching at Suffolk University in a number of ways.

  • The Center is in the process of developing an innovative, interdisciplinary Master’s Degree in Women’s Health and Human Rights, to be housed at the Center.

  • The Center supports the development of courses related to health and human rights, with a particular focus on women and girls, as well as the integration of units or “modules” dealing with these issues for inclusion in existing courses.

  • The Center will bring scholars, practitioners, and advocates for women’s health and human rights to Suffolk university for lectures, colloquia, brown bag lunches, conferences, and other fora. The Center will provide a forum for teaching and learning for students, faculty, and community members.

Research

Innovative, cross-disciplinary research will be a core activity of the Center for Women’s Health and Human Rights at Suffolk University. The Center will support, produce, and disseminate research that illuminates, informs, analyzes, and challenges. Research will be published in a Working Paper series and eventually in edited volumes.

Advocacy

Every aspect of the Center’s work embraces advocacy of women’s health and human rights. Both the Advisory Board and the Steering Committee will be charged with ensuring that the Center stays true to its mission and goals as advocates for the health and human rights of women and girls everywhere.
To this end, the Center will:

  • Increase the visibility of issues related to women’s health and human rights at Suffolk University and beyond.

  • Promote research that bolsters advocacy for women’s health and human rights.

  • Collaborate with like-minded organizations and individuals to provide a voice for women’s health and human rights in a variety of fora.

  • Generate position papers, policy recommendations, Working Papers, editorials and opinion pieces that will advocate for women’s health and human rights directly, and be of use to other advocacy efforts.

Networking

Networking is central to the Center’s mission and goals. Therefore the Center will provide ample opportunities for involvement. All events sponsored by the Center will be free and open to the public. Interested people may affiliate with, and participate in, the Center’s work in a number of ways. Get Involved
